Jiffy Bag-Monsters

I had alot of pressies to send around the world this week for Christmas cause some of my family live in Australia and then there is another livin in Amsterdam. So instead of the boring aul mustardy brownish yuck colour I decided to jazz up their parcles just a bit with a monster or somethin. My camera is très bad so sorry if the images are crappy.
Silly post I know but it's close to Christmas and I am run off my feet...bla,bla,bla...

Devastated

Oh no!
The Terrible Yellow Eyes site I was telling you about in my last post has decided it has run its course and will be coming to it's final post on January 1, 2010. What will I do without The Wild Things?
I'll just have to go and create my own RUMPUS!

Only one more sleep...

"Where The Wild Things Are"

I can't frickin wait for this. A very special friend of mine bought me the Maurice Sendak book about a year ago. I couldn't believe I had never heard of it before being a megga huge monster fan. How it slipped under my radar is beyond me but better late than never right? Now Spike Jonze has gotten hold of it and made it into something that looks pretty damn amazing. It gave me goozebumps when I seen the first trailor...seriously!

So "Where The Wild Things Are" is out on the 11th Dec.....exciting times!!!

I have been working on a piece for an age now and it still isn't the way I want it to look so maybe soon enough I'll have a "Where The Wild Things Are" special. I could pop up the line drawing but that would just ruin it....and now I've built it into something bigger than it might ever be, so don't get too excited :)

Oh and for some really amazing Wild Things tribute art go to Terrible Yellow Eyes. There are a shit load of seriously hot artists posting onto this deadly site so check em out.

John and Edward (Jedward....oh dear me!)

So right, these two over confident, crazy haired twins seem to be gripping the nation at the moment with their out of tune singing and out of time dancing. Well, all I have to say is if they can make me laugh as much as they have they can't be half bad.
This is for my buddy in London.

Get involved Justine!

"The Amazing World of Gumball"

Finally I can mention something about what I have been working on the last while....
"The Amazing World of Gumball" got it's first press release on IFTN today.
It is a Cartoon Network show and Boulder are working along side two other studios, Dandelion in London and Studio Soi in Germany, to make the "magic" happen for Cartoon Network.

It is all about a surburban family and mainly the antics of Gumball the son who is a cat and his best friend Darwin, a fish. The show is a mix of 2d flash and 3d animation and realife backgrounds so it is something very different to anything we have done before. It is very funny and looks great. So have a gander at the press release and watch this space...

I didn't really cry...

So I was out horseriding with my brother on Wednesday and went for a little canter in the stubble fields....except it didn't quite work out that way for me. The canter became a gallop and bye bye Gill. Straight off into a ditch full of mud and nettles. Rodrigo got a little(lot) carried away with himself and I had no choice in the matter. I was like a chocolate coated Gill after getting out of the ditch. Covered in mud. Hilarious!

Had trouble moving the next day....

Backgrounds

Here is something a little different. I tend to stear clear of bgs, maybe something to do with a fear of perspective that grew on me over my years in college. This was a bg I did for an idea I was working on. Clearly you can see it is quite rough. But then my boss wanted to use it for something so he called in the heavies to fix it up a bit/lot.

and here are the results. Fran got to "Fransify" it and it turned out brilliant. This is what I am going to strive to do in future with my artwork. Take it to the next level and make it look like this. The composition works much better, shapes are more exciting, there is much more depth to it and the textures look great.

Amsterdam for my Birthday

I haven't been drawing but I have been really busy in work with the new project and with still no computer it makes things pretty difficult to squeeze in any blogwork. We have taken loads of staff on and every day seems to be another challenge but we are getting there....kinda.
I managed to get away for a few days to Amsterdam to visit my brother for my birthday weekend. After nearly missing our flight through no fault of our own, myself and Aido got there and had a deadly weekend. Seens lots of places and there was lots going on. We met some really cool people. It's always a pain having to come home when you have such a great time. There is some picyures anyway to keep my blog alive for another few weeks anyway.

Finch, Darwin and what's left of the Mob

To make up for the complete lack of recent artwork in the last couple of months, which I had already made an excuse for in my last pathetic post I decided to show you all my fish. Darwin (those of you who I work with will know why I picked this name) is the one with what looks like he is wearing and orange swimming cap, an Oranda. Finch is the big black one, a Black Moor and then if you look really closely there is one of the mob, a Minnow he is really small. There used to be two more in his gang but due to unfortunate mobster activity in their bowl they sadly passed away. I only bought Darwin at the weekend and he seems to be fitting in quite nicely although Finch has to be quicker for his food now. Which he always finds hard to see because his ginormous bulbous eyes are at the side of his head.

Hope to post something exciting (art) really soon.

Gill.

No Computer...

Hi There. I know I haven't been posting in a while but I have reasons. My laptop died *sniff* *sniff*.... I was working on a couple of pieces but it is really difficult when I have no machine at home. I am looking into buying a new laptop and should have it within the next month. I am very excited about that.
Also, we have just started a new project in work and have been busy getting that all ready to go. I don't think I can say much about it though for another little while but what I will say is, it is a supertoon, really different, hilarious, kwerky and the style is deadly! So watch this space and I'll be able to post more about it.
I have created a new workspce at home and was able to buy myself some really nice new art materials from a voucher my mates gave me for my birthday lastyear. So over the next while I hope to post alot more handrawn pieces, sketches and stuff......now, that's hopefully ;)

Gretel

For those of you who didn't know already I am a huge fan of horses. These are a couple of drawings I did a good while back of a horse that I learnt to ride on. Her name was Gretel and she was an amazing Cob. She had groovy flares so we were a good match.

Zen

I was given this little project to do for a very talented young Tennis player called Julie. It is a bookmark type thing that she can keep with her when she is in tournaments to remind her to keep her focus and stay calm. I hope it works for her.

Update: here is the final piece... see what ya think?

A Great Start to June

So here we are and after 2 years of no summer we finally got some sunshine. The past few days in lil' ol Dublin have just been just the most gorgeous days in such a long time. Trips to the beach and up to the Dublin Mountains for some fantastic views of the city followed by BBQ's and maybe a beer or two.

It sure beats the grey skies, rain and cold that the Irish have become so accustomed to. Long may it last I say.

Real Life Monsters

Had a very quite Easter so rather than stuffin' myself with easter eggs I decided I would try my hand at makin' one of my little monsters into a real monster. I haven't really used a sewing machine properly before so it was vwery, vwery interesting. At one stage I had sown his arm on the insideout part....DOH! He is kinda bockety here and there and alot of everywhere but I think that adds character (well, that's what I'm sticking too).

Oh and his arms are suposed to be that long and his legs that short....a few people have said did ye mix the arms up on the legs? Nope, that was intentional!!!

Ben, my rescue dog.

Hey now everybody. Here is some great news. I have adopted a little Shih Tzu, now called Ben. After the tragic loss of Molly the house felt so empty so I decided to adopt a rescue dog. I found Ben on the http://www.friendsofbendogrescue.com/ website by a total fluke. So I rang straight away to see if he still needed a home. A week later, he was rehomed with me and is doing really well. Ben was found totally neglected, matted and underweight. He is such a clever, happy, effectionate little dude. I am so chuffed he is living with us now.
The people at The Friends of Ben Dog Rescue Centre do some seriously amazing work for animals that have been thrown by the wayside and forgotten about or abused. It is heartbreaking to see so many dogs on SO MANY websites looking for homes. So if any of you out there are looking for a new family pet. Maybe try a rescue centre instead, rather than a brand new puppy and give some little runt a fresh go at a deadly new life.
I know it sounds like one of those save the animals ads but it's true. Ireland should be ashamed of the neglect of so many of their animals. Some of these Irish rescue centres/ pounds send off dogs to other countries to be rehomed because those countries don't have these enormous problems with stray dogs.
That's my rant done with for now.

Don't you think he looks a bit like an Ewok ?!?

2009 in OZ

Happy New Year to all who visit my blog. I am at this very moment in Australia. I decided to pack my bags and get the hell out of the doom and gloom of little ol' Dublin for the Christmas and New Years. It is pretty surreal celebrating Christmas in 30 degrees heat. It has been great just getting away from everything and relaxing for the few weeks and hangin out with the Ozzie part of my family, IN THE SUNSHINE. I was deprived of my vitamin D so badly. Ireland is a cruel, cruel place.
I am still managing to wear my wooly hats here too though, I don't think I will ever change. I get all lot of stick from everybody here...."what? you can't be bloody cold here mate!"
Anyway, thanks a squillion to all who have visited my blog and especially those who have come back again to see more.
I looked back over my New years blog entry for lastyear. It was funny. I had myself down to be a non-smoker this year. Pifft, that never happend....
